Bird Struck! Ostrich

Family Devotional

Day Six

“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection” Psalm 91:4.

There are many sayings about ostriches many of which categorize them as being stupid or cowardly. One is the perception that when in danger they bury their heads in the sand.

Sometimes they do rest by laying their heads on the ground. But when in danger, not only can they run up to fifty miles an hour, but their feet are powerful weapons too.

Another misconception comes from their breeding habits. The female ostrich lays one egg and then leaves it in a communal setting. But the egg is not left unattended. All the eggs are watched over by day by a female with light coloring to camouflage the eggs. And at night a male with dark-colored plumage protects them.

So the young are protected by those who can best camouflage them safely.

Often we don’t understand difficult situations around us, and it seems that we, or our friends, are left alone and vulnerable.

But when we pray, God always provides His answers, even though often we don’t recognize them. The protection He provides may be a type of camouflage.

As a king who fought many battles for his people, King David was often sent away to hide from his enemies almost as many times as he stood and fought.

Listening to God in prayer helps us to know which way is the right way each time. He shelters us His way to keep us safe.

Action
1. Prayer is one kind of protection too. In what ways do you think you might need some protection for this week? Ask God for wisdom.

2. Who around you can you pray for without telling them? Become a camouflage pray-er.
