Discernment: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

2nd Peter 1:20-21 to 2:1-2: "You must understand this at the outset: Interpretation of scriptural prophecy requires the Holy Spirit, for it does not originate from someone's own imagination. No true prophecy comes from human initiative but is inspired by the moving of the Holy Spirit upon those who speak the message that came from God.

In the past there arose false prophets among God's people, just as there will continue to be false teachers who will secretly infiltrate in your midst to divide you, bringing with them their destructive heresies. They will even deny the Master, who paid the price for them, bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow immoral lifestyles. Because of these corrupt false teachers, the way of truth will be slandered."

Discernment

Lord, we need Your thoughts and words all the time in all circumstances. We cannot trust  our own confusions that arise. Please guide us through each step said in our words whether talking to ourselves or sharing with others.

Only Your direction and messages as You nudge in Your time.

And remind us to take the time to seek confirmation from You--especially when new ideas arise--so that we stay on Your truth. And to identify subtle proposals that seem so kind.

In all our thoughts--our actions--our relationships.

Your wisdom only from the Spirit's voice.

Insight: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

                Insight

                His voice spoken then
                on the mountain a gift
                beyond comprehension.

                And now light is
                offered to each
                circumstance bearing light.

                As we listen
                from a heart insight
                gift of glory.

Psalm 89:38: "But thought hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been full of wrath against Thine anointed."

Reflection Questions

        1. How do you recognize when a word is coming directly from the Lord's voice?

        2. When have you been given a prophetic word from the Lord or been given one to speak to  another?

        3. How does that affect your choices and your heart?

Message: 2nd Peter: Prayers and Poetry

2nd Peter 1:18-19: " And we ourselves heard that voice resound from the heavens while we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have been given the prophetic word--the written message of the prophets, made more reliable and fully validated by the confirming voice of God on the Mount of Transfiguration. And you will continue to do well if you stay focused on it. For this prophetic message is like a piercing light shining in a gloomy place until the dawning of a new day when the Morning Star rises in your hearts."

Message

Moment by moment.

He will guide us to hear His voice if we will choose to listen. He will guide sometimes through nudges and light led by the Spirit's whispers and insight.

His walk. His will. His words offered as a gift every new day.

Lord, please keep teaching us to hear what You say. To fill our hearts and souls and thoughts bound to You.And then to share what has been prepared for us to offer.

Your light--Your wisdom--Your truth.

Delight: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

                Delight

                We easily recognize

                 the lavished love

                 poured out on Jesus

                 by His Father

                 with delight.

                 We often cannot

                  though see we are also

                  poured out with His love

                   bought by mercy and healing

                   with delight.

Psalm 89:37: "It shall be established forever like the moon, And the witness in the sky is faithful." Selah.

Unveil: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

2nd Peter 1:15-17: "Indeed I'm passionate to share these things with you so that you will always remember them after my exodus from this life. We were not retelling some masterfully crafted legend when we informed you of the power and appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we saw His magnificence and splendor unveiled before our very eyes. Yes, Father God lavished upon Him radiant glory and honor when His distinct voice spoke out of the realm of majestic glory, endorsing Him with these words: 'This is My cherished Son, marked by My love. All my delight is found in Him!'"

Unveil

Thank you  Lord that You speak and teach into each of us Your words and Your presence so that we can meet You one by one. Not only stories but ongoing relationships.

Please keep us listening for Your specific words on Your path in Your time. We are in such need of Your directions so that we may learn to live into Your purpose. Too often we struggle to recognize, or receive, that Your gift of love is for each of us.

Please guiding us to speak only Your words to ourselves and to others; to live into Your glory and light.

May our hearts yearn to listen and grow under Your care.

Grace: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

                Grace

                Today we walk on
                earthly paths a
                world of beauty and
                despair both a
                reality.

                Toward a future of
                eternity-a promise ahead
                sometimes beyond our
                comprehension yet a
                reality.

                Today a gift of grace.

Psalm 89:36: "His descendants shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me."

        2. How can we remember our kingdom life is eternal under His promise?

        3. How can that affect our day-to-day attitude and battle when needed?

Today: 2 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

2nd Peter 1:11-14: "As a result the kingdom gates will open wide to you as God choreographs your triumphant entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. I won't hesitate to continually remind you of these truths, even though you are aware of them and are well established in the present measure of truth you have already embraced. And as long as I live I will continue to awaken you with this reminder, since our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, has clearly revealed that my departure is near."

Today

All our times are in Your hands, Lord, whether we sometimes recognize it or not. In action or in stillness.

We need to keep listening to Your words and Your directions.

We need to stay on Your path and use all our time under Your directions. To walk with commitment. To hear Your words in our soul.

Thank you for Your ongoing presence and mercy and protection in all circumstances--from sorrow to joy.

Thank you for Your ongoing gift and promise that we will not be separated from You in life or death.

Please keep us each walking in Your truths in all circumstances with trust every moment of every day.

                now planted deep

                within our soul
