Assurance: 1 John: Prayers and Poetry

                Assurance

                Words, opportunities
                new information
                and discoveries always on
                interest and all curiosity.

                Words, of directions
                bearing honest truth or
                sometimes hidden
                with lies to stumble us.

                Words from the Spirit's
                confirmation gives honesty
                and protection so we
                can step into blessed witness.

Psalm 107:25: "For He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lived up the waves of the sea."

Reflection: Truth: 1 John: Prayers and Poetry

Reflection Questions

        1. How often do you accept words as truth in all situations without asking for confirmation? Why or why not?

        2. How have you experienced His specific directions that brought light into your circumstances? What changed your insight?

        3. How do you listen and obey now and follow in trust?

Truth: 1 John: Prayers and Poetry

Reading: 1st John 5-7: "And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this that He has borne witness concerning His Son."

Truth

Thank-you Holy Spirit for continuing to guide us into truth, especially when there is so much falseness among us--including ourselves.

Please keep us listening and obeying Your words and directions only.

May anything else dissolve.

May we only see Your glimpses as You lead and follow in trust.

Your purpose only.

Your thoughts,

Truth: 1 Peter: Prayers and Poetry

                Truth

                Word from the Lord
                endures
                forever.

                Word given to each one
                empowers
                faith.

                Word ongoing always
                embraces
                forgiveness.

                Word restores brokenness to
                everlasting
                foundation.

Psalm 89:6: "For who in the skies is comparable to the Lord? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the Lord,"

False: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

            False

            False doctrine is

            easy to find

            charlatans  embrace

            filtered truth

            for personal gain.

            Sound doctrine

            remains faithful

            established in trust

            of spoken word

            written on hearts.

Deceit: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

Reading: 2 Timothy 4: 3-4

“For the time is coming when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander away to myths.”

We are not really surprised by this verse when we consider today’s culture. Sadly.

Publicly between advertisements, politics, and social media it is almost impossible to hear truth spoken. Partial truths, perhaps, innuendo certainly, but honest truth is too rare. And when it is shared opponents have a way of vilifying and shredding the integrity behind it.

Historically our churches at large too often fall into the power lure as well and preach only partial scripture, or consider only limited ways in which the precept should be applied. And through the centuries the legalism and control have wounded countless believers.

The Jewish leadership took God’s Ten Commandments and by Jesus’ time had added over 600 addendums to it, putting a terrible weight on the people struggling to uphold the law. And the leadership was not pleased when Jesus kept poking holes in their religiosity.

In Acts 17:11, Paul encouraged the Bereans in their integrity because when they heard the gospel they went directly to the scriptures to certify its truth. In its whole passage. Not just filtered excerpts. And here in Timothy the warning continues.

Not only do we have scripture but the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us. We have a responsibility to recognize deceit in all the areas of our lives so that we can stand firm in truth that heals and restores, unifies and uplifts, embraces and shares together. Not to pursue or ignore self-centered doctrine that pretends to be truth.

Lord, please give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to follow Your words, Your way.

Psalm of Worship: 1 John 1:2

“This life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

Message: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

           Message

            Sometimes so hard
            to speak
            when bound by chains
            of emptiness or neglect,
            fear and grief.

            Yet even there
            truth calls out
            to speak boldly
            after compassion and
            a way to restoration
            especially when
            understanding evades.

            Boldly speak
            message given,
            although a mystery,
            truth will deliver
            make known
            to each heart.

Word: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

           Word

            Sword words

            wielded by Spirit

            bring two-edged

            perception

            removing sin’s cancer

            restoring life’s truth

            only under salvation’s

            helmet can we

            stand and face.
.

            With courage.

Held: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

           Held

            Belt attaches us

            to truth

            holding us firm

            from falling away

            trusting His thoughts

            breastplate our covering

            soaked in grace

            wrapped in protection

            from lies

            trusting His path.

Fasten: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

Reading: Ephesians 6:14

“Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness.”

Have you ever had difficult discerning what is truth? Or how to process it?

When the Israelites faced Goliath they saw the truth of his power—his size, his strength, his victories, and knew without a doubt that he could not be defeated. And they were right.

David too acknowledged the ineffectiveness of human armor to battle Goliath, and removed the protection that Saul had given him. But David’s truth went beyond human capability and instead he looked solely to the Lord’s power and truth. And used the wisdom God gave him to be victorious.

The apostle Paul counsels Timothy to warn his listeners not to “wrangle about words, which is useless.” He advised that wordly and empty chatter would spread and lead to ungodliness. Instead, Paul says, be diligent, …. “handling accurately  the word of truth.”

God’s truth which goes far deeper and powerful.  Unshakeable. Unbreakable.

Honest. Sincere. Whole. Timeless.

That is the truth we can fasten to and know is trustworthy.

Lord, please give us Your truth as our breath, and Your righteousness as our covering.

Psalm of Worship: Isaiah 55:8

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.”

Life: Word Ambassadors: Prayers and Poetry

            Life

Word that cuts to the heart

as sharp as a two-edged sword

            and a terror of guilt.

            Instead a surgeon’s precise

            knife to bring healing

            accountability removes disease.

            Before spreading, before cold

            refusal can stop truth or

            barricades sanctuary.
