Believe: 1 John: Prayers and Poetry

                Believe

                Commandments in so many
                fields stand as a weight
and sometimes true but then we
                bruise the commandment that
                are gifts of protection
                and loving guidance.

                Given by His truth
                And love as a parent
                To beloved children as
                Soul, life protection
                Within and without
                Healing false, restoring brokenness.

Psalm 107: 23: "Those who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;"

Waiting: Purpose: Prayers and Poetry

                                               Waiting

                                                To trust

                                                may mean no agenda

                                                no course of action

                                                no direct plan

                                                or maybe all

                                                without any sense

                                                of accomplishment

                                                direction

                                                uncertainty each step

                                                into a void

                                                yet keep going

                                                in trust.

Psalm 18:27, “For Thou dost save an afflicted people; But haughty eyes Thou dost abase.”

Reflection: Believe: Purpose: Prayers and Poetry

Reflection Questions

1. What does trusting in the Lord look like in practical applications to you?

2. What response do you have in heart and mind when time goes far past our expected answers and directions?

3. In what ways does stepping into each day in trust without an agenda counter our schedules and plans?

Share: How have you handled a long wait without understanding?

Believe: Purpose: Prayers and Poetry

Philippians 2:24-25, “and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also. I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need.

Believe

How often do we put our trust and belief in the Lord first? Especially when we don’t have any immediate questions, or concerns, and our to-do-list looks very solid?

Then later, when everything seems to unravel, we then turn to seek His help and the Spirit’s insight.

But here Paul is first trusting with no agenda at all. No plans. No timeline. No list.

He trusts with hope and waits in expectancy.

But is still not sure what or if his hope will be answered.

He believes in faith that whatever the choice will be the plan.

Lord, in our multiple busyness it seems impossible to not have schedules and plans and timelines. At the very least to keep us focused. Yet, too often our purpose gets buried under our structure instead of being the center of Your choice. Please show us how to believe from our hearts first and be ready to trust each day under Your time.

Your thoughts,

Believe: By Faith: Prayers and Poetry

Believe

Even in belief

I disbelieve and

exile myself from

Your love

expecting nothing.

Knowing my heart I

exempt myself  from

Your forgiveness,

exist in a coldness

I alone shape with

emptiness.

Yet You stay closer still.

Water: Faith Seeds: Prayers and Poetry

Jeremiah 17:13, “O hope of Israel! O Lord! All who forsake you shall be put to shame, those who turn away from you shall be recorded in the underworld, for they have forsaken the fountain of living water, the Lord.”

In seasons of drought, crocodiles often go into hibernation for several months. They dig out a den of mud in river or waterhole and wait. They trust the water to return. Other times Nile crocodiles will move across dry land to another habitat to find a water source. They survive. They trust. They wait.

Throughout times of plenty and times of tribulation Israel never stopped recognizing the hope of Messiah. Even during seasons of their history when they outright disobeyed God’s laws or counsel. So why would they turn away from His truth?

Why do we?

Israel had the belief and hope of Messiah, yet no concrete measurable concrete historical to verify. Like Abraham waiting for his heir, they believed in the promise but often chose to use their own solutions in the meantime. In case God was absent, or had forgotten, or was unable. And every time they failed.

We have historical proof. Messiah has come, is present to us, and will return. We trust in that overall hope, as did Israel. Until the drought comes, or the pressure, or indecision, or cost of relationships, or…., and stress whittles away a sense of security.

Then we sometimes pick and choose which parts of truth words to live by. We exist by drops of water instead of asking for God’s rain to soak us through and saturate us from the inside out. We forget to hide ourselves in His whole provision—maybe because we don’t want the solution to be hibernating in a mud-hole waiting.

Forgive us, Lord, for substituting our own solutions instead of relying on your fountain of life giving hope. May we thirst for your words every day and never doubt in Your answer. May we remember to ask in faith.

Psalm of Worship: Psalm 72:6

“May he come down like rain upon the mown grass,
Like showers that water the earth.

(request of King Soloman for his rule as king)

Kingdom Manna

Cost

Acts8:12, “But when they believed Philip, who was proclaiming the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”

Awed by God’s display of power, filled with confidence in Moses, Israel left plague-torn Egypt fixed on new horizons. But when they entered the wilderness grumbling began to eat away their faith.

Doubts> disbelief> disobedience.

Announcements filled with good news, with old truths re-spoken; Philip’s audience faced a decision. How to choose? Would they be considered fools? Where was this kingdom? They trusted and stepped out in faith.

Belief> baptism> blessing.

Also filled with opportunities to live by faith. I too can walk in doubt or in trust. Despise my situation, blame God, or curse others. Let bitterness erode my witness. Or sink deeper into prayer and watch for God’s leading and embrace comfort from fellowship.

Choice> compassion> Christ.

Psalm of Worship: Psalm 106:24-25

Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise.

They grumbled in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
